Our Sangiovese Rosato is produced from grapes gown in the foothills in Mendocino County. This dry rose wine is produced the the "direct to press" method then transferred to neutral French barrels for fermentation. This lovely wine has aromas and flavors of strawberries and cranberries an finishes with sweet fruit flavors and mouth-watering acidity. It is the perfect "al fresco" with light seafood and poultry dishes.
Vineyards: The grapes for this wine come from longtime friend and grape grower Skip Lovin, owner of Burk Hill Vineyards located in the western foothills above the Ukiah Valley. In the 2019 vintage, we had a early rainfall and a long growing season in Mendocino County that was marked by a warm spring and a generally warm to hot summer and autumn, almost perfect grape growing conditions other than the early rains and frost we received.
Winemaking: This wine was produced by the direct to press method, where we crushed, pressed and cold settled the juice before racking it to French Burgundy oak barrels and fermenting it to total dryness. The grapes were hand-harvested at 22 degrees brix. After seven months of “sur-lie” aging, the wine was racked off its lees, fined, filtered and bottled on June 9th 2020.
Winemaker Comments: The color of this wine is a classic European light salmon. Refreshing aromas and flavors of cranberry and watermelon with a light splash of pink grapefruit that is nicely balanced by mouth-watering acidity. The wine has a crisp dry finish.
Food Pairing: This wine is wonderful as an apperitivo or anything “al fresco. It is the perfect picnic wine. Ice it down in tubs at a beach clambake or serve it with prosciutto wrapped figs.
